How to Select the Right Ceramic Fiber Module for Your High-Temperature Kiln

Ceramic fiber modules are a popular choice for lining industrial kilns and furnaces due to their excellent insulation properties and ease of installation. However, selecting the wrong module can lead to premature failure, increased energy costs, and unplanned downtime. Here's a quick guide to help you choose the right module for your needs.

1. Match Temperature Rating to Your Kiln's Operating Temperature

  • 220 kg/m³ — Offers better resistance to erosion and high-velocity gas flow. Suitable for rigorous, continuous-duty applications with standard thermal cycling.
  • 180 kg/m³ — Lower heat storage, faster heat-up and cool-down cycles. Ideal for intermittent processes and applications requiring rapid thermal response.

Pro tip: For rapid heating applications like batch furnaces, the lower density (180 kg/m³) module is often the better choice. For continuous furnaces with high gas velocity, the higher density (220 kg/m³) module provides better durability.


3. Evaluate the Anchoring System

The anchoring system is crucial for the safety and longevity of your lining. A reliable anchoring system prevents modules from loosening, sagging, or falling — especially on furnace roofs.

  • 1430°C modules — Use 304 stainless steel anchors
  • 1600°C modules — Use 310 stainless steel anchors (higher temperature resistance)
